Hikaru no Go is a manga adaptation written by Yumi Hotta and drawn by Takeshi Obata.
Gold. An unexpected Jewel. This anime is in many ways like so many of its genre and yet in completely different. Or maybe just has more feeling in it.  Like so many games/sporting animes, Hikaru no Go is about a boy who falls in love with a game and seeks to become the best. Except, that’s not how it starts. Really it starts with a ghost. Sai.
hikaru no go 4Sai is a ghost who is about 1000 years old. While alive he worked as the court go master but for various reasons ended up dying before he could achieve his dream and discovering the ultimate move. Or rather the ultimate game. The hand of god. Sai now haunts a go board and when Hikaru touches it while searching though his granddad’s shed, possesses him.
Sai is a childish man. He loves to be over dramatic and pouts when Hikaru won’t let him play go. He is also very curious about how the world has changed and the people who now play go. But he is also very deep and philosophical. He doesn’t know how much time he has left after all, only knowing it will run out and Hikaru is possibly his last chance to achieve the hand of god. Except, something happens that Sai wasn’t expecting. Hikaru starts to want to play himself.
A minor problem for both of them as Sai wishes to play, though he is more than happy to teach the young Hikaru to play. As for Hikaru, he is known as a genius and for him to suddenly start losing games is more than his rival can take. And so the story unfolds. More than just Sai achieving his wish but Hikaru growing up and his ascend into the Go playing world. Literally watch Hikaru grow up.
Time passes in this anime and we watch as Hikaru grows from being a elementary student, up until high school. He’s a stubborn brat the whole way though, but we do watch as he develops into a young man and the experiences he has. The friends he makes, the trails he faces, they are all part of the world he has unexpectedly found himself want to know more about.  Hikaru is a likeable character and portrays the emotions of a young boy very well. He gets upset when his friends leave him. He is ecstatic when he wins a game. He wants to win and is determined to do so. Also things can be very serious to him, even if they are not as serious to us. This anime is most definitely worth a watch.
hikaru no goThis is not Hikaru’s story though. This anime is full of interesting characters who sweep you up into the world and keep you paying attention. From his childhood friend Akira to his main rival  Akira Toya. Touya especially. Touya is the son of the current master of Go and has been training his whole life to follow in his father’s footsteps. He is frustrated by his boy who has suddenly appeared in front of him who sometimes plays like a pro and other times like a new player. That doesn’t stop him going to Hikaru’s aide when he gives up Go to give him the kick up the ass he needs. Touya has few friends and I think you can indeed class these two are friends. Disjoined as they are.

The others around them can not help but watch this younger generation as they seek to topple the current gods. The presence of Sai unsettling them all, either though Hikaru or over the net. Especially the net. Everyone wondering who who Sai is and just what is Hikaru’s connection to him?
This anime is platinum to me. Its bold and daring. The emotions raw and true. Everything from the script to the music is exciting and draws you in with a tight grip. The art is a little dated now but the HD version has been enchanted so it is bright and the lines are clear.

Aired: Jul, 2001 to Dec, 2001
Producers: Studio Deen, FUNimation Entertainment
Fruits Basket is a manga adaptation originally written by Natsuki Takaya.
Fruits Basket is an anime which like many others suffered from being given an anime too early on. What do I mean by that? Well the manga finished in 2006, a good 5 years after this series was released. Meaning it suffered from being one of those animes which had to fabricate an end and has many details not quite right because the manga hadn’t finished yet. Which is a shame because the manga is fantastic and it would have been wonderful to have seen the anime more true to the manga. However beggars can’t be chooser and we have what we have. Which, if you don’t compare it to its original source, its a damn good anime.
Fruits basket is a typical shoujo in many respects. Our heroine, Tohru Honda is a big eyes naive but warm hearted girl who has been recently orphaned. She is the type to make friends which delinquents and charm the heart of anyone. What Tohru has, which most anime girls don’t, is the determination to get though anything. Very little ever gets this girl down and even if you do success, our Tohru is very fast to jump right back up to her feet. Her late mother was a strong independent woman who gave up a lot to rise her daughter and Tohru is an admirable young woman as a result.
Enter the boys. We have the good boy, Yuki Sohma. Yuki is popular and clever. He’s also surprising strong despite his weak health. He has a massive rivally with his cousin Kyo. Kyo is the delinquent type. He’s clever but he’s a lone wolf who will do what he wants. The two boys live together with their uncle Shigure. The three take Tohru in after she is kicked out of her grandfather’s house and decides to live on her own in the woods. The catch.
The Sohma’s are not you average family. They are cursed with the zodiac spirits, the head of the clan is dark and twisted man called Akito who is cursed with spirit of god. If any of the cursed Sohmas are hugged by the opposite sex, they turn into the animal they represent. Yuki is the rat. Shigure is the dog. And Kyo. Kyo is the cat. The 13th animal who was tricked by the rat into not going to the banquet. The cat is cursed after greater than the other 13, and Kyo only has one year to defeat Yuki or spend the rest of his life in a cage at the Sohma’s household.
Despite the darkness of the story, Tohru offers them all a light into their lives. The girl who smiles and does not care they are cursed. Determined to help find away to break the curse which has haunted the family for generations. There are some really dark parts of his anime, much more in the manga. It is a interesting read and the love rivalry between Kyo and Yuki for Tohru is fun and entertaining. Tohru’s never ending determination and the personalities of all the animals are wonderful. This anime is full of up and down and comedic interludes. And is very enjoyable.
So Gold. I only wish they would try to remake it with the manga now complete.

Alien 9 is one a show not many people would have heard off which is a same because it is a good concept and one which would be interesting as a longer programme.
It is set in a world where alien invasion is a daily occurrence and every school assigns three students to fight off the extra-terrestrial threat within the school. This duty is chosen like all the others, by volunteer or nomination.6222lUnluckily for Yuri, she get chosen by her class to fight the alien invaders and she is terrified of them. Along with serious Kumi and perfectionist Kasumi they fight of the aliens using parasitic aliens which stay on their heads. However that the parasitics really that safe? And what happens when a giant alien abducts Kasumi.

This show is a strange but thrilling experience. Where you literally watch Yuri grow and learn how to cope in the situation she has been unwilling put it. To me its silver, and a urge anyone with some spare time to give it a go.

Pretear Review

Shin Shirayuki-hime Densetsu Pretear (Prétear: The New Legend of Snow White)download

Pretear is a manga adaptation drawn by Naruse Kaori and written by Sato Junichi.

This is the anime which proves that reverse harem is not a new thing in the anime world. That doesn’t make it good though. Bronze. She goes for the guy who is a dick to her the entire time. She is awful. Okay, so its not that unusual. It is one of the most standard tropes going. But, the thing is, that doesn’t make it right.

Himeno Awayuki is a delicate flower, read pathetic little whinny girl. To be fair to her umm. No. Her life is sad. Yes. Her mother dies, her father remarries and the family are a horrible to her. As are her classmates. She gets bullied and debates her place in life. She is hurt and vulnerable and doesn’t know how to change things. Notice, she is 16. This is not the end of her life. She is an angsty teenage. Honestly she just needs to put on black and she would be an emo to be honest.

Then something amazing happens. She is attacked and saved by mysterious pretty men called the Leafe Knights, who tell her that she’s the Prétear who is needed to save the world from darkness. Each of the episodes are Himeno getting to know one of the guys before kissing them and using there transformation to save the day. She gets to know them all and still she falls for the dick who pretty much tells her she is worthless and treats her like shit. Somehow the two fall in love.

At this point, I’m not sure why I bothered finishing the anime and honestly I reckon I only did it because this was at a time where a lot of the anime sites had been taken down and the new ones had yet to start up again. Pretear was not a good anime. It was a very bad one in my opinion. She is the sort of girl I would have liked to slap, and tell her to get some self respect. Some of her actions you can place down to losing her mother and being bullied. That doesn’t make her a likeable character to me. Nor one who should be used as a role model.

The only reason this gets bronze is that I finished it. Otherwise it would be stone.
