OniAi! is a Light novel adaptation by Daisuke Suzuki

I didn’t think I’d actually complete this anime given its theme and name. The younger sister loving his brother trope is common on in anime, but having the anime from the girls perspective is not something I have come across before. I don’t watch hentai so maybe it’s more common there?

Either way, OniAi is a surprising entertaining anime. The characters are pretty stereotypical of a harem/ecchi anime and many of the situations are the standard ones but they do mesh together well. With the added twist that people aren’t exactly unaware that Akio’s obsession for her brother isn’t exactly normal. Akio is half aware, living in a weird non-ignorance that she refuses to acknowledge she’s not a normal girl.

The boy had everyone likes, and only boy actually named in the entire show, is Akito. Akito is aware of his sister’s perversion but mostly waves it off. Almost too calm in the face of what he has to put up with from all 3/4 girls and then his boss to add to the mix. His twist is fantastic though.

The animation is good and there are considerably less sparkles than some of the animes that Silver Link have made. Maybe they clocked on with this one that story is actually more important.

This anime is ecchi and there was plenty of ecchi moments. A few had me wincing but most were in good humour. A few genuinely had me laughing. Thankfully (and showing remarkably good taste) the ecchi moments were never between the brother and sister. Or rather only ever in her imagination and not explicit.

So I give this anime a silver. It’s entertaining and extremely watchable.

Gatchman Crowds is a anime based of a previous anime in 1972 Science Ninja Warror Gatchman. The 1972 series was written by Jinzo Toriumi. Gatchman Crowds was written by Toshiya Ono.

I have never watched the original series of Gatchman and as such, I can only actually review this as a series and nothing in relation to the original series. Gatchman Crowds is a fun anime which is focuses on the power of friend and how a community can band together to help each other and others in need out.

The lead in this Hajime_Ichinoseanime is Hajime Ichinose. Hajime is a bit of an air head. She’s very unique and has a love for stationary. She is also an optimist to an almost ridiculous level. Like any true anime female lead, she entrances people and has some fantastic friends. Hajime gets granted the power of NOTE. Along with several other long standing Gatchaman, Hajime fights in a special reinforced suits powered of Note against strange beings trying to destroy the city they live in. In particular they fight against MESS.

Hajime’s team mate, and longer running Gatchaman is Sugane Tachibana. Sugane has a samurai type suit and is a bit of a stuck up prick.  A little harsh, he’s just very diligent towards his duties and believes in justice very strongly. It takes him a while to warm up to the teams latest member. Hajime’s easy going character grating against his own. But slowly she proves her worth and he begins to respect her. After all Hajime has a habit of being of the impossible. Including talk to psychopaths with out making them attack more people. She also get the Gatchaman to change their methods and update them to the new world. Something which everyone is resistant to at first but eventually Hajime’s plan works and they improve because of it.

The rest of the team are fun too. Including a few aliens, and a talking panda to boot! And the villian. The villian is fantastic! Berg Katse basically just loves destruction and knows just how to get it happening. Hes very flamboyant and reminds me of a cross between Grell from Kuroshitsuji and Moral from Hamatora. He is also quite taken back by Hajime, not that it stops him trying to destroy the world but it is fun to watch.

The art style for this anime is really cool to. Lots of unique designs and interesting characters. To anime the suits the anime uses a 3D animation program which blends in well with the rest of the world. Unlike most anime who randomly insert the effect in.  This anime is fun and there is plenty going on in the world to keep an eye on. Its not overly childish, nor is it very adult. To me its gold.

Akuma no Riddle is a manga adaptation written by Yun Kōga and drawn by Sunao Minakata

This anime was not bad per-say, I just didn’t really enjoy it. Akuma no Riddle is an anime which is a battle royale type anime. One more in a long line of similar animes which have been popular over the last few years. This one which the twist of having Yuri elements. Oh and no one actually dies in this one. So what is the situation this time?

Met our leading lady, Haru Ichinose. (The girl to the right in the picture below) Haru is a cheerful bubbly girl who is covered in scars. She is also the target. Haru has spent her entire life being targeted by assassins, which has led to the death of her mum, dad and two brothers. Why? Why has she been targeted all her life? We are not told at first, as the anime unravels we slowly learn the truth behind why people are trying to kill her so much. Her wish is to survive the class and be able to live a normal life. Haru starts high school and is placed in the ‘Black’ class. A class which is made up of thirteen assassins and one Haru. All thirteen assassins are trying to kill Haru in order to gain one wish. All of them have their own motivation for joining the class, and their own styles of killing. Except one of the assassins has a change of heart.news_FD9n1W2iuOesXvT

Enter Tokaku Akuma. (The girl in the middle) Tokaku is from a legendary class of assassins and is highly trained. Except she has never actually killed anyone more. Entranced by Haru’s cheerfulness, and determination to survive Tokaku decided to try to protect Haru from the rest of their classmates. The result? A fairly standard, school scenary followed by assassination attempt and recuse format anime. The majority of the episodes are guessable and to be honest I only finished this anime because I had nothing else to do. Otherwise I would have quit. I didn’t care about the yuri themes, nor the lame fight scenes. Its just that, despite most having fairly dark and decent background stories, most of the characters were simply quite bland to me.

The only one who develops over more than one episode is Tokaku. TO be fair that is partly because after they have failed, they get kicked out the class. Which sort of puts a downer on the idea of character development. Which is a shame because it meant of the vast majority of the characters we met, we learn there life story and see their assassination attempt in one short episode and don’t see them again until the epilogue. It.It just seems lazy to me. I get the anime is supposed to be Haru x Tokaku centric, but even their interactions are fairly standard and uninteresting until the last few episodes when the truth about the Black class and Haru is revealed.

Its fine. Its nothing special and I personally didn’t enjoy it all that much. The ending was particular bad as well. It just didn’t make sense and the reason was so wishy washy it was terrible. The last few episodes were mildly more interesting and I was hoping for a good ending. Its a sweet happy ending, but make no real sense. So bronze.

Isshuukan friends is a manga adaptation and is originally written by Matcha Hazuki.

This anime is what happens when you combine 50 first dates and Japanese romance concepts. The Japanese, as least currently, view your first love as the most special. You can see this in how many of their romances are set in high school. It is part due to that idea that love at during high school time is the most special. In many ways Isshuukan friends only increases this assumption. It is sweet, and touching. Despite it being technically shounen.

Kaori Fujimiya is a seeming cold but beautiful girl in Yuuki Hase’s class. One day he works up the courage to ask her if she will be his friend. Except he is rejected. The next week he tries again only for her to blank him. Eventually he learns that she is always alone because all of her happy memories, including time spent with her friends, disappear every Monday. Meaning she can never make friends. Still wanting to be friends with her anyway, Yuuki Hase tries to get close to Kaori over the course of every week. Hoping one day she will remember him, all the while falling in love with her.

Yuuki is such a babe. He’s nervous and sweet. He also gets jealous and does some pretty silly things. Yuuki and Kaori don’t talk during class so people don’t know they are friends. But when he can’t met up with her, he stands up and shouts sorry much to the amusement of his classmates who have no idea what he is talking about. He is so determined to be her friend that when she loses her diary, he refuses to go to school and spend the days searching for it. Kaori’s a sweet character too. What caused her amnesia is really sad! But she is such a nice person who just wants friends again.

This anime is gold to me. I recommend it highly. Its very rare to find a love story as innocent as this one is. Both of them get so flustered and embrassed, its adorable! There are some real gems in his anime. Though it still take me a while to warm up to Saki.

Fairy Tail was a manga adaptation written by Hiro Mashima.

TFairy_Tail_Intro_&_Outro_Themes_Vol.2_Regularhis anime started good. Honestly in my opinion, what it suffers from it that the manga itself starts with a good story which that filters into a weak one. If the base manga is weak, the anime isn’t much better. The first season is good. But when I tried to get into the next one, I struggled to have any interest.

There are ecchi moments but nothing too scandalous. I do enjoy Hiro Mashima’s work and the ideas in this was are good. Lucy is a 17 year old who wants to join the famous mage guild Fairy Tail. Lucy is a ‘key’ user. The keys let her form contracts with spirits to use in battle. Including someone very familiar for people who know Hiro Mashima’s work. Though as he reuses a lot of character models that’s not hard.  Lucy is a fine character. She’s not amazing, she not over powered and she normally needs some help. But she’s not whiny. Or at least at the start she isn’t.

Natsu is the high mage who is a fun character. He’s social and like to laugh. He also gets travel sickness and is a dragon. Notably Natsu is one of the stronger characters. He and Lucy strike up an friendly bond and they are sweet together.

I don’t think I can give this a rating. Season 1 was a silver. I can’t say I would have recommended it to many people. I’m almost impressed by how long this anime ended up.  Maybe one day I will give it another chance. But for now I can live without it.

Amagi Brilliant Park is a light Novel Adaptation written by Shoji Gatoh and illustrated by Yuka Nakajima.

I enjoyed this anime. It made me laugh and I genuinely enjoyed the plot of this short anime. It is no masterpiece. It is not one I will buy merchandise for or even really recommend to anyone unless I am out of ideas. However it was a fun anime to watch. Those two standards would seem to contradict themselves but in the end there are plenty of anime that I have watched and

Amagi Brilliant Park

enjoyed but are just that. Entertainment. I rate this anime as silver because chances are in a five years I will not remember its name but I will remember its plot.

At first glance it is not particularly special. Slightly different from the normal anime set while the characters in high school, in that is it not actually set at high school.

We start there. A seemingly normal boy, Seiya Kanie, is forced to go a date with a new student. Isuzu Sento. By forced, I mean by gun point. The location of this date? Amagi Brilliant Park! Well, not so brilliant. The bus stop is at the wrong place, most of the attractions are in despair and the food is awful. Except the croquettes. Made by the parks very own princess. Latifa.

Latifa is pretty much a typically young princess. Big hearted and thinks the best of people. She is also the princess of a magically land and the park works as a battery for the magic of that land. With this in mind and considering the park is in danger of being closed meaning the denzions of the park would dissappear, Sento is given the task of saving the park. Why? He’s 1) a perfertist, and 2) a former Child Star who has lost his way.

And so the tale begins. The epic journey Sento takes to whip the park into shape and get  250,000 vistors to walk though the park gates in under 3 months. A seemingly impossible task. But one Sento undertakes. Trust me, he has his work cut out for him. And the story unfolds. There is romance, but honestly I love this more for the comedy and just the everyday problems of running a theme park.

Update *23/7/15

Having finished university for the summer I decided to go hunt down some anime only to find a new OVA of Amagi. It was delightfully mad as the series. Which all the best characters at the least featuring in a cameo as the park attempts to run its day to day operates. With the added bonus of people having to switch up some roles and failing at it, having to compete at an annual fight to the death *coughs* perform at a kindergarten and arrange a birthday party. The OVA manages to capture the light hearted but wacky nature of the series and I hope it gets renewed for the second season.

I wanted to like this. It was pretty. Visually, Amnesia was stunning, which some of the most unique designs I had seen in a while. I would also like to comment at this stage that I watched Amnesia soon after getting back into anime again. This almost made me stop and back out.

The only way I can justify this is that it works better in a game format when you are playing the Heroine instead of watching her. Most of the boys are dicks to her. Also Shin killed sort of killed someone. No he didn’t. There is so much angst in this anime! I imagine that is the reason it is so popular with teenage girls. To me, its honestly just grating.

The girl is having memory problems and none of them notice. Wait a tick! The girl you love isn’t acting her normal self? None of you notice? She barely specks up for herself. Something which again I assume is to do with the fact this was adapted from a game where you would pick the responses. I hope. Its hard to tell if people actually think girls should act like this or if its just a bad character design they like to use.

The mystery element is the Heroine’s memory. Kind of. There is more to it then that. I actually guessed what was happening and looked it up. The plot for the mystery is not bad at all. But the crappy attempt at romance, and a flimsy led female character just made this almost unbearable to me.

So to me. Stone. Its not even worth a bronze in my eyes. I know people will disagree but this is my opinion. I shall now continue to live my life.
