Gun x Sword is an original anime written by Hideyuki Kurata.

Silver – Not dropped but unfinished due to technical difficulties.

The first episode was good. Interesting idea and concept, if not a little common with animation considerably more modern than some of the other anime released at this time. In some ways, it’s a little sad that some animes are of a similar quality to this now. Even this was ahead of the time or some studios are not putting their money into this anymore.gun-x-sword

In some ways, it’s a little sad that some animes are of a similar quality to this now. Even this was ahead of the time or some studios are not putting their money into this anymore. The effects in this are brilliant, as is the movement of the characters. They are fluid and the fight scenes are beautiful.

I have never watched cowboy bebop (which from the theme and genres I’d guess this anime was trying to be a predecessor from) but this anime reminded me of Yatterman and World Destruction Society at some points. The air of a world which is more technically advanced but still as chaotic and unruly as when it wasn’t. Oh and there is some idoit who is trying to change the world into their own world view.

Our group of mismatched heroes in this one are your a-typical mix of people who don’t quite fit in with the real world. Van’s an airhead who likes putting all the condiments he can on to a cheap dish and forgets his friends names easy, but he does have a heart. Wendy is more your typical serious anime girl and Carum is the knowledgeable wanderer in this scenario. Plus Joshua for comic relief and Pricilla to brighten up the show.

That all being said. There were occasions I was bored with the anime. It made me care for the characters but I had to take breaks regularly. It’s a bit heavy to just blast through all at once. I was getting into the arc again when… the site I was using apparently began having problems. For some reason, I could only see the first 5 mins of the episodes of Gun X Sword so unfortunately, I could not finish the series. Hopefully, when I have time in the future I will return to it.

Special A is a manga adaptation originally written by Minami Maki.

Special A is your typical shoujo anime. Beautiful boys and oblivious girls who have no real idea of what going on around them. I didn’t finish it, not because its a bad anime. In fact, I would wager people who like shoujos would most likely enjoy this very much. However, I just got bored. Which I strange considering i did enjoy the manga to this.

Special A is set in a ultra elite school called Hakusenkan where the top 7 students have their own building and get special privileges. The group is made up of you mostly standard characters. We have the twins. The girl doesn’t speak but instead uses a note book to talk. Beware her scream though. The twins older cousin, who acts as their caretaker. You do not try to take him from the twins. Then we have two more fairly standard people and the main pairing.

The main lady for this is the loud mouth and stubborn Hikari Hanazono. Your atypical ‘strong female’ shoujo character. She is not rich like the best of them and attends the school at great expense to her father. She is clever though, clever enough to be in the special class. She is beautiful and again like all shoujo main leads, every boy falls for her at some point. Hikari is blunt and to the point. She is also very strong. Why? She has one real for being in these school, for studying so hard and for training in pro wrestling.

To beat Kei Takishima. Kai is at first glance a rich, spoilt, arrogant boy. Again your typical hero in shoujo. He’s competitive and is one of those irritating people who can just do things as easy as breathing. Much to the irradiation of Hikari who tries hard to beat him at something. And normally fails.

Thing is, Hikari is so consumed with her desire to defeat him at something, anything, that she completely missing one major thing. Kei is in love with her. Something I can understand given she spends so much time trying to keep up with him and she is normally only a few points behind. It must be nice when you are that clever to have someone who might actually be able to beat you. But her constant obliviousness gets a bit much sometimes, as does the almost over wacky-ness of the show. This is not a realistic setting and the mad happening reflect that. But more often than not for me it was more tiring than amusing.

This is has all the ingredients to be an entertaining anime. Between the boys fighting over Hikari’s heart, her best friend trying to help her beat Kei and some pretty wacky things occurring. And yet I was not particular thrilled or drawn into this anime.

I give this anime a Bronze because I don’t think it is a bad anime. Maybe next time I try it I will find it more enjoyable but for now its not one I am likely to return to any time soon. VMYrlU5-0cONAfncHCL7TdzoZas

Persona 4 Review

Persona 4 is a video game adaptation of Atlus’ PlayStation 2 video game, Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4.

There is also an alternative version to this anime called Persona 4: The golden animation which I have not watched nor intend to judging by the reviews. Aka they basically just glued in a new female character. Not sure who they thought that was more but if there is nothing new to the story I don’t really care.

That being said, I really did like this anime! The designs were really cool and I liked who they tried to handle lots of different issues within it. Its almost half detective, half school life as the gang go about their daily lives while trying to solve the mystery of the town. I was sad at the ending. Yuu going back to the big city was a given but it was still sad to see him leave after everything they went though. Yuu is such a sassy guy and its brilliant. The way he has no qualms with doing silly things, like say filling for a girl in a mock mixer interview. Kanji is a close second favourite. He’s such a dork! His character is brilliant, especially considering his appearance. Kanji and Naoto are definitely my favourite pairing for this series, They are adorable together.

The mystery side to the story was excellently done in my opinion. Don’t get me wrong, these guys are no Sherlock Holmes but they do there best to figure out who is killing these people. Honestly I had no idea all the way though.

What this anime does fail in is the action side of things. Sure when people are learning to accept their true self, the fights were pretty cool. However afterwards the few we have just get boring. I realise in the game you would fight/complete levels in order to unlock cards, but Yuu just sort of has them without any real clues as to how. Ignoring the opening scenes of ‘You’re having fun with your friends then’. Its a little abrupt and not that interesting really. I’m sure, considering what a good job they made of this anime, they could have though of something a bit better but we have what we have. The other note being there aren’t actually that many. In fact many of the episodes have an almost filler feel to them. All related to the plot and very good as a school life anime but not really what you would expect from a fighter game adaptation.

Finally, this anime was Gold. It was a entertaining and well made. I only wish the fight scenes had been a little better.

Standard anime tropes from this era. Bare in mind, I watched this anime soon after watching ‘DearS’ and ‘Chobits’, this anime was not all that everyone made it out to be. I am willing to admit I am more a Shounen person than a Shoujo but this. Okay, this anime was properly considerably better as a Shoujo then anything else. Enjoying a time when not every romance had to have a harem or ecchi scenes in it. This show was a fine anime. At best, I’d give it a silver.

So the plot. Well. I can remember the beginning and the end. So I guess I watched it all the way though, but considering I remember little else, I can’t say it was a brilliant story. It was a good story. Refreshingly light hearted even. Especially when compared with more die hard romances where they fall in love in five seconds flat. The story starts out with a recently rejected young man attending college who accidentally calls the Goddess Hotline. In this world, the Goddess’ are supposed to bring happiness to people and in order to this, Heaven has set up a hotline where people who are good but suffering misfortune can call up to make a wish. Yep, that’s a thing now. So how many of you can guess where this is going?

To be fair, the young man, Keiichi Morisato does not say ‘Stay with me forever’ because he actually wants the goddess, Belldancy too. He thinks this is all a joke. And is more than a little surprised when the wish is granted and Belldandy remains with him instead of going back to Heaven. This of causes a number of problems, first of which being housing as he lives in a male only dorm. Though everyday problems and not so everyday problems, (Belldandy has two sister who both show up to create more trouble), the two fall in love and eventually live happily ever after. After the big finale mind you but that would give the plot away. Kind of.

The story is an odd mix of cultures and ideas. Most of the ideas and names seem to come from Nordic and Celtic origins, which only make things stranger when put into context with the Japanese setting. Belldandy and Keiichi are a sweet couple. Both very pure hearted and do genuinely seem to fall for each other. Even with the rest of the cosmos seemingly trying to get in the way. Its just nothing overwhelming special to me. But remember it had been some time since I watched this. The outfits were pretty cool though.
